The Steens
Tuesday, July 24th, 2007The first CT photo series… There’s Lael Powell-Rushing, car-camping guru, with his tent (the Outback) on the Alvord Desert. This was shortly before Powell-Rushing went on an ill-fated visit to the Alvord’s most popular bathing spot…
But then… shortly after returning from a soak Powell-Rushing stumbled upon this car, which had apparently been ransacked by a radical group of anti-globalization Mormons.
This was the first time Lael had ever witnessed violence. For more information on Lael’s fate, please read the CT’s feature “Lael vs. Alvord.”

This looks familiar. I was watching Independence Day last night (with Will Smith and Bill Pullman). I could have sworn it was shot here. Do you know if this is true? Independence Day, the movie, filmed in Alvord/Steens?

Hello Fellow Contrarians-
God, I haven’t seen Lael since we crashed this cocktail party someplace on JFK-Platz in Berlin back in 97, but it’s good to see he’s still doing his thing. Hope all is well Lael and drop me a line when you get back from the desert!
